Rocky Mountains – Abraham Lake, AB
For those who are seeking the ultimate adventure! No need for previous experience but you must meet all the requirements since this tour implies a lot of commitment.
Description of the tour
This is by far the best way to experience Canyoning in the Rockies!
After a helicopter flight over Abraham Lake, along Elliot peak and above BATUS Canyon, our Heli will drop us off on a ridge of Ernest Ross Peak. We’ll have been out for less than 10 minutes but the adrenaline will already be pumping!
Here, we’ll take a few minutes to enjoy a quiet moment with a 360-degree scenic view. Then, when we’re ready, we’ll start our scramble down alpine meadows, until we reach the creek that we will follow from its source, through our canyon, and to the lake.
Our adventure has begun! Together, (with the help of our stoic and capable guides) we’ll make our way down the scramble, through alpine vegetation, rappelling down small waterfalls, and whizzing down natural water slides. From there we’ll find the mouth of the canyon. The creek will disappear into a narrowing opening with 30-meter walls that seem to split the mountain in two. Inside the slot, we rappel down a succession of 3 tall waterfalls all while in a dark, tight rock corridor where we can barely see the sky, almost like a cave. The ambiance is set! We’ll finish the first half of our day with a famous 45-meter waterfall, the equivalent of a 16 story building!
After a well-deserved gourmet lunch in a spacious section of the canyon, we will continue our descent through smaller but more playful drops and slides while enjoying the gorgeous scenery. The sidewalls of this canyon are over 100 meters in some sections! Don’t worry, feeling small and insignificant when thinking about the hundreds of years of erosion that carved this colossal canyon is totally normal! We’ve checked!
Since you are with 2 guides and they can lower you down on guided rappels for the more complex sections, no rappelling or swift water experience is required!
However, as there is no way around most of the waterfalls and this is quite a long route, you should be comfortable with heights and fast-moving water. This is not the place to challenge yourself if you have never canyoned and are afraid of heights. Joining us on an adventurer tour is a good idea to test yourself before coming on the heli-trip.
We have all the specific gear for you to stay safe (harness, helmet, etc.).
You only need to bring a bathing suit, warm hiking clothing, and a towel.
Lunch, snacks, and beverages are included in this tour.
